Internal Security Fund Projects
The aim of the Fund for Internal Security (FSI) is to ensure a high level of security within the European Union, specifically in the following fields:
- Prevent crime on two fronts: on the one hand countering serious and organised transnational crime, including terrorism and, on the other, boosting coordination and cooperation;
- Strengthening Member States’ capacity to effectively manage the risks relating to security and crises, as well as preparing and protecting people and critical infrastructure against terrorist attacks and other security-related incidents.
Under this Fund, two financial assistance mechanisms were set up: one for law enforcement cooperation, preventing and countering crime, and crisis management (FSI Regulations – Law Enforcement Cooperation), and another for external borders and visas (FSI Regulations – Borders and Visas). The Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (SGPCM) is a direct recipient of this Fund, replacing that set in the Implementation and Operationalisation of the Passenger Name Record (PNR) and the Modular Expansion of the PIIC (Platform for Exchanging Criminal Information) – PIIC-MX projects.
