Media@ction – 2024 Edition

The Media@ção 2024 School Competition is now open.

The aim of the Media@ação competition is to encourage critical, responsible, and creative use of the media through citizenship and freedom of expression. It is aimed at all students in basic, secondary, and vocational education.

The current edition’s theme is “Media, Human Rights, and Peace” and seeks to foster reflection on the role of the media in the current context of threats to peace and human rights. Students can compete by producing a video or podcast under this theme; on the Medi@ção Competition’s YouTube Channel there are several tutorials available, such as “Visual language” and “Support videos”, as well as the winners in previous years.

In Competition Rules you will be able to view the specifications to follow, the prizes for this edition and a few suggestions to inspire you on how to approach the theme, such as:

  • What is the importance of information for democracy?
  • Can misinformation affect democracy?
  • Is there a significant difference between the information shared in the professional media outlets (TV, press, radio) and on social media?
  • Are social media an instrument of manipulation or an instrument of resistance?
  • Is there democracy without free media?
  • Does freedom of expression have any boundaries?

The assignment must be submitted using the application form, by the teacher librarian or the tutor by 22 March 2024.

The Media@ção Competition is an initiative driven by the School Libraries Network (RBE) and the  Secretariat-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, together with:
