European Green Capital 2020 Commitment

“Lisbon, a carbon neutral city by 2050, resilient to climate change: adapted to the present, preparing the future, to follow and meet the sustainability goals"

In 2020, Lisbon was considered a European Green Capital. The city’s commitment to achieve a better urban environment was renewed up to 2030.

In this sense, Lisbon Municipality (CML) took on an ecologically ambitious agenda, that focused on several programmes and initiatives. To successfully meet the targets on this Agenda, the CML acknowledged the importance of active participation by the entire city and set companies, organisations, associations, and public and private institutions a challenge: to jointly undertake the Lisbon European Green Capital Commitment – Lisbon Climate Action 2030.

Under this scope, the Secretariat-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (SGPCM) underwrote this commitment and will implement measures and/or project that will contribute to a circular economy by 2030, namely in the fields of mobility, energy efficiency, water efficiency, and ecological public procurement.

The SGPCM’s commitment is contained on the Lisbon Municipality’s website, together with the commitments of the more than 200 entities that joined the initiative.

The SGPCM stands out as the first public entity under the State’s direct administration to join this commitment.
